1. Start with the existing parcel information
Collect the land and survey documents available for the parent plot, together with the site location and approximate area. These provide a starting point for understanding the parcel and determining what survey work may be needed.
2. Explain how you intend to divide the land
Tell the survey team the intended number of plots and, where known, the approximate sizes or intended uses. Access, existing occupation, physical site conditions and project objectives may affect the proposed arrangement.
3. Review the survey scope

4. Check related survey needs
If the existing plot positions need to be checked first, a boundary verification may be relevant. Where parcel records or another cadastral requirement is involved, see cadastral and land parcel survey support.
If the subdivision is part of a development project, a topographical survey may also be useful for site levels and physical features required by the design team.
What affects the subdivision survey quotation?
Factors can include the size and location of the parent plot, available survey information, number of proposed plots, site accessibility, field conditions, required drawings/deliverables and the professional work needed for the agreed scope.
